About TAFTA

Acting is fun, acting is simple, but it isn't easy.

TAFTA is dedicated to teaching and developing the craft of acting in film and television. We offer courses that cater to all ages and levels of experience and can help you work towards a professional career. Over the years, we have designed a series courses and workshops that will progressively train you and offer you support while you work through what can be a very difficult and competitive industry.

There are many teaching methods in the world, most of which claim to be the ‘one true method’- the fact is there isn’t one. At TAFTA we believe that human being is different and needs to be treated as an individual expressing themselves. Over your career as an actor we will help you will develop a toolbox that you will be able to call upon for different roles and productions.

Film acting is simple and like all art, it is a form of communication and storytelling. It is a relationship between human beings on an emotional level which is expressed visually first and verbally second. Finding simplicity in performance is also extremely difficult. Film acting differs greatly from acting in the theatre in both technique and expression. The close up exposes everything.

Modern casting is not about getting good actors to play characters. It is about finding the people who are the characters, as the modern focus is on being able to perform as yourself within the confines of the story.

In addition to a range of courses, we offer an LA EXPERIENCE
Whether you are a young actor looking to develop your skills further, an international actor looking to learn more about the US industry or have obtained a Greencard and want to pursue a career in film and television is the US, our LA Experience is the perfect program to help you find your way.
Over six weeks you will undergo intense training with classes at times running from 9am-9pm 4 days a week led by seasoned working professionals including actors, coaches, casting directors and industry representatives. You will focus on developing specific skills including audition technique, understanding the business of acting, obtaining US representation, working visa’s and most importantly – the US dialect.

SELF TEST FACILITIES:
Book an appointment and send your scripts through so we can familiarise ourselves with them.
We are happy to provide professional reading or you can bring in your own reader if you prefer.
We will use one of our studios fully equipped with lights, camera, microphone and large flat screen for playback.
Bathrooms with mirrors are available if you need to change between scenes.
If you need extra time to include coaching for those trickier roles, we are more than happy to help with that too.
Once we have shot your scene(s), we will put together your best takes along with a name slate, compress and upload the file(s) and email the link to your agent or whom ever you wish, making sure everything meets the correct technical specs.
We are extremely flexible and will always try to accommodate out of hours and same day requests.

SHOWREELS:
As an actor you should always put your best work forward. In this industry a Showreel is just as important as your head shot. If you're looking to show the range of characters you could play and the different looks you can achieve as well as working on location with a film team this is the package for you!
The package will include:
2 x scenes of your choice (we can assist you)
A rehearsal with your scene partner (including blocking). We can help arrange a scene partner if needed.
A shoot day and your choice of location
Scene edited and a link to the footage

STUDIO HIRE:
Our studios can be used for castings, rehearsals, meetings or simply a place for actors to get together.
Whatever your need let us know – whether it’s someone to help run your casting session, provide technical support, be a reader in one of your sessions or simply upload your footage, at TAFTA we can help. We can also provide castings on SD Card or online (and can also allow for same day viewing of a casting session if required).
